Are you looking for ways to reach emotional maturity? Also known as emotional intelligence, this is a skill that allows people who develop it to be fully aware of their emotions. An emotionally mature person knows how to distinguish their emotions, understand them and, mainly, manage them in the right way.

How to become an emotionally mature person in 5 steps
1. Practice mindfulness
Mindfulness is a great practice. Thanks to it, we can learn not to judge ahead of time and begin to observe.
Emotional maturity is based on not reacting impulsively to any stimulus, but rather giving ourselves a few minutes to think about how to respond correctly.
With practice, mindfulness will allow us to be aware of our thoughts and feelings, and to begin to manage them in a much more intelligent way.
2. Start learning from your mistakes
Not taking responsibility for our own actions and imposing blame on others is not assuming mistakes or learning from them.
To make mistakes is not negative. We can learn from our them. So it is important not to escape them, but to welcome them and take them as an impulse to do better next time.
We cannot achieve emotional maturity if we do not take responsibility for each and every one of our failures.
3. Keep and emotional journal
Knowing ourselves is very important, but we never seem to have time. So it is better to have an emotional diary.
Ideally, each night, before going to bed, you should take time to write in this diary everything you experienced during the day, but from your emotional side.
What happened that made you feel so happy? How did you feel when you heard that news? How did you respond to that insult? Reflecting on these questions and more will help you get to know yourself better.
4. Count to 5 before acting
Even though it sounds like nonsense, the emotional diary can help us to be aware that we should put this exercise into practice.
It does not matter what situation we find ourselves in, let alone whether the emotions that arise are positive or negative.
In both cases, we have to be aware of always counting to 5 and then reacting, acting or making a decision. The moment we think before we act, many things change.
5. Try detachment
Sometimes we get attached to our partner, but what about our beliefs and memories? This is not emotional maturity, but the opposite.
Nobody teaches us to practice detachment, something that is very healthy, but that is not easy. It’s important not to get attached to any idea, thought or person. It’s difficult, but with practice everything is achieved. Let’s start letting go.
To reach emotional maturity, it is important to focus on the present, not to stick to what makes us suffer, in addition to learning to accept problems and assume mistakes. Upon reaching emotional maturity, it’s possible to have some control over our emotions and, mainly, to learn how to manage them in the best way to promote our well-being.
