Retrograde planets 2021: dates and meanings
Seven will be the retrograde planets in 2021. Before analyze them, let us remember that, astronomically, retrogradation is the “apparent” retreat of a celestial body, when it seems to move in the opposite direction of other planets.
It is an optical phenomenon (an optical illusion), generated by the observer’s point of view (terrestrial perspective), and the different speeds at which the planets rotate on their own axis and around the Sun.

In traditional Astrology, the time lapses in which the retrogradation of these celestial bodies occurred were interpreted as periods of conflict, with could affect humans in a negative way.
Today, modern astrologers consider the apparent retreat of the planets as a time that requires introspection and the review of life goals and projects.
When can we observe the retrograde planets in 2021?
The retrograde planets in 20221 will be Mercury, Pluto, Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and Venus,. Each of them will complete an apparent retrograde phase, except for Mercury, which will face three (3).
Important: depending on the geographical area where you live, the start and end dates of the apparent retrogradation of planets may show slight variations.
Mercury retrograde 2021
Beyond its known effect on communications, Mercury retrograde offers an opportunity to uncover hidden information; analyze the mental plane; identify negative thought / communication patterns; and evaluate the quality of interaction with others (and with oneself).
In 2021, Mercury will retrograde three times, under the influence of air signs, raising questions about the dynamics of personal and social relationships; the exchange of ideas and the defense of them; future projects; and the assertive use of communication.
From January 30 to February 20
The first of the three annual Mercury retrogradations during 2021 will begin on 01/30 in degree 26 (26 °) of Aquarius, and will end on 02/20, in degree 11 (11 °) of the same Zodiac sign.
Mercury retrograde in Aquarius points to intellectual growth and self-reflection. This is a good time to review long-term strategies; accept the processes of change; and reconnect with old friends.
From May 29 to June 22
From May 29 to June 22, Mercury will complete its second annual retrogradation, moving from degree 24 (24 °) of Gemini, to degree 16 (16 °) of the same Zodiac sign.
Mercury retrograde in Gemini imposes the organization of ideas; and the review of communication or commercial projects, study opportunities, and internal dialogue.
From September 27 to October 18
The last of the three annual Mercury retrogradations during 2021 will begin on 09/27 in the 25th degree (25 °) of Libra, and will end on 10/18, in the 10th (10th) degree of the same Zodiac sign.
Mercury Retrograde in Libra talks about examining the terms of professional contracts, and legal agreements; the reunion with old passions; and progress in personal relationships.
Important: during the apparent retreat of Mercury, in the air signs, we must be careful with the emotional distance; disagreements with friends, colleagues, partners; damage to electronic equipment and vehicles; self-fulfilling prophecies; gossip; unconfirmed information; and travel delays, signing contracts, and court decisions.
Pluto retrograde 2021
The second of the 2021 retrograde planets will be Pluto, whose apparent retreat invites us to recognize the transformation potential of being; face fears; identify traumas and blocks; explore conscious sexuality.
From April 27 to October 06
From 04/27 to 10/06, Pluto will retrograde in Capricorn, which warns about the internal conflict between the desire to maintain the old work systems and the need to implement new strategies.
At this point, it is important to cultivate confidence in personal power, select goals (professional and personal) that you find motivating; and not be overcome by repressed anger, the illusion of control, perfectionism, and excessive ambition.
Saturn retrograde 2021
Known as the planet of karma, Saturn’s annual retrogradations aim to reflect on duties and responsibilities; rigidity of thought; the losses; self-imposed limits; and restructuring long-term goals.
From May 23 to October 10
From 05/23 to 10/10, Saturn will complete its annual apparent retreat in Aquarius, a transit that will reveal the lack of confidence in the future; fear of social exclusion; and the avoidance of responsibilities.
This season is propitious to study your interaction with the groups; and the personal concept of freedom (do you defend your individuality, or do you escape from the creation of true bonds?). Avoid beating yourself up for old disappointments, or letting yourself down because friends and colleagues don’t live up to your ideals.
Jupiter retrograde 2021
The fourth of the 2021 retrograde planets will be Jupiter. Known as the planet of expansion, Jupiter retrograde encourage meditation on religion, belief systems, philosophy of life, individual vision, ideals, and growth potential.
From June 20 to October 18
On June 20, Jupiter will begin its annual retrogradation in Pisces; later, on 07/28, it will enter Aquarius, where it will begin its direct phase, on October 18.
Jupiter retrograde in Pisces (from 06/20 to 07/28) alludes to the connection with the source of inner wisdom (Divine Self); the restructuring of personal beliefs and philosophy of life; and facing true tests of faith.
On the other hand, Jupiter retrograde in Aquarius (from 07/28 to 10/18), suggests taking time to think on the causes and groups with which you identify yourself; and how you project yourself into the future.
Important: Bigotry and arrogance can present challenges of unexpected proportions.
Neptune retrograde 2021
Neptune retrograde, planet of depths, imposes the need for introspection (to reflect, not flee from the present); likewise, it is a space to connect with inspiration, a higher vision of being, divine love and spirituality.
From June 25 to December 01
The annual retrogradation of Neptune will begin on 06/25 in Pisces and culminate, when the direct phase begins, on 12/01.
Neptune retrograde in Pisces refers to escapism; the disconnection from reality; victimhood; self-deception; susceptibility to certain substances; and the manipulation of third parties.
From the evolutionary point of view, we can take advantage of Neptune retrograde in Pisces to discover the feasibility of ideas (land your plans); connect with the voice of intuition; nurture the link with the Divine; and receive psychological support.
Uranus retrograde 2021
With Uranus retrograde the focus is on what restricts personal freedom (from the subject’s perspective); the need for change; recognition of one’s own originality; radical actions; and rebellion.
From August 19, 2021 to January 18, 2022
Uranus will begin its annual retrogradation process on August 19 under the influence of Taurus, a sign in which its apparent regression will culminate, on January 18, 2022.
Uranus retrograde in Taurus speaks of resistance to letting go mental and financial structures; and dissatisfaction with the circumstances. Take advantage of this transit to identify old beliefs; manage (constructively) fear of change; and prepare your action plan.
Important: let’s remember that 2021 also began with Uranus retrograde in Taurus, a planetary movement that lasted from August 15 (2020) to January 14 (2021).
Venus retrograde 2021
Every 18 – 19 months, Venus goes through a retrograde process for about 40 days. The planet of desire in apparent retreat, promotes the revision of sentimental relationships; own resources; and the beliefs that sustain self-esteem, and the subject’s scale of values.
From December 19, 2021 to January 29, 2022
From 12/19 to 01/29, Venus will be retrograde in Capricorn, a transit during which the lower Sun – Venus conjunction will take place, also known as Venus Star Point (01/08/2022).
Venus retrograde in Capricorn shows a certain coldness, difficulty expressing feelings or fear of intimacy. Likewise, it is prudent to avoid interest-based relationships (personal and professional) and risky economic transactions during this time of year.
With the planet of desire in apparent retreat in Capricorn, we can understand vulnerability as a source of power (not weakness); analyze old experiences with maturity; pay attention to the levels of demand, internal and external; and visualize clear financial goals.
Retrograde planets in 2020
As previously noted, the retrograde planets 2020 will be Mercury, Pluto, Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus and Mars, each of which will complete an apparent recoil phase, with the exception of Mercury, which will face three.

Mercury retrograde 2020

In February 2020, Mercury will begin to retrograde in Pisces, on 02/16; later, on 03/04, it will enter Aquarius (still in apparent backward movement), a sign in which it will begin direct trajectory, on March 9.
Retrograde Mercury in Pisces refers us to the link with the spiritual path of choice; the review of projects of an artistic or creative nature; redefine healthy boundaries; and rediscover one’s sensitivity, without prejudice.
Also, Mercury retrograde in Aquarius invites you to reevaluate your ideas (projects); retake old plans; participate in exchange of opinions with groups; contact old friends; and privilege the rational.
From June 18 to July 12
On June 18, the retrogradation of Mercury in Cancer will begin, a process that will culminate on July 12, when its direct phase begins, in the same sign of the crab.
Retrograde Mercury in Cancer talks about home renovations or repairs; promotes the approach to the family group; exchanging memories with distant relatives; investigating the family tree; letting go of the past; and to evaluate the limits of your comfortable zone.
From October 13 to November 03
In October 2020, Mercury will retrograde in Scorpio, from 10/13; for later, on 10/27, it will enter Libra (still in apparent decline), sign in which it will begin direct trajectory, on November 3.
Retrograde Mercury in Scorpio aims to face the deep traumas and fears, which tried to remain hidden or ignored, (good time to receive psychological assistance).
In the same way, retrograde Mercury in Libra urges recapitulation; amend errors or situations in which you acted unfairly; analyze how you participate in the dynamics of relationships; renegotiate agreements with your partner; and practice forgiveness.
Pluto retrograde 2020
The second of the retrograde 2020 planets will be Pluto. In modern astrology, this celestial body is considered the driving force behind the great internal transformations and regeneration; in addition, it is associated with power, sexuality and emotional control.
While Pluto is currently listed as a dwarf planet (not a planet), its astrological influence remains relevant. Saturn Retrograde 2020
Known as the master planet of karma, Saturn’s annual retrogradations invite us to reflect on duties and responsibilities; the rigidity of thought; how you deal with loss, depression and difficult times; self-imposed limits (both healthy and restrictive); and the restructuring of long-term objectives.
From May 10 to September 28
In May 2020, Saturn will begin its annual apparent setback in Aquarius, on 05/10; later, on 07/01, it will enter Capricorn (still in apparent recoil), sign in which it will begin its direct phase, on September 28.
Retrograde Saturn in Aquarius refers to reviewing the responsibilities inherent in friendship relationships, or interaction with groups; the fear of social exclusion; and ask yourself whether the desire for independence hinders the formation of sincere and lasting bonds.
On the other hand, Saturn retrograde in Capricorn (01/07) imposes considerations on the restriction of the soul’s desires (privileging the material); lack of discipline or confidence in yourself; and conflicting relationships with authority figures or family patriarchs.
Venus retrograde 2020
Every 18-19 months, Venus meets a retrogradation process, for about 40 days. From May 13 to June 25
On May 13, Venus will begin to retrograde in Gemini, a process that will culminate on June 25, when it begins its direct phase in the sign of the twins.
During this transit, specifically on 06/03, the lower conjunction Sun – Venus, also known as Venus Star Point, will take place. In the event, the planet of desire will be presented as Morning Star.

From August 15 to January 14, 2021
Uranus will begin its annual retrogradation process, on August 15 under the influence of Taurus, a sign in which the apparent retreat of the planet of change will culminate, on January 14, 2021.
Uranus retrograde in Taurus aims to analyze the motives that drive the changes (are they real and justified, or unnecessary?); the resistance to let go of the old mental and financial structures; the defense of individuality; and the identification of the actions, which will allow to materialize the proposed goals.
Mars retrograde 2020
Every 26 months, Mars meets a retrogradation process, for about 70 days. The warrior planet in apparent recoil refers to frustration at the impossibility of action; and highlights the importance of reflecting before acting, (avoid confrontations).
Similarly, retrograde Mars invites you to question what motivates you to action; what are the causes of repressed anger; and the difficulty to stop reliving the past, instead of focusing on the present.

On September 9, Mars will begin to retrograde in Aries, a sign of which is the ruling planet, and where it will begin its direct phase, on November 13.
Retrograde Mars in Aries points to difficulties in executing immediate actions; little spontaneity; resistance to making necessary decisions; and high sensitivity to criticism.
