Rituals during eclipses: can you do them or not?
The debate about performing rituals during eclipses involves a complex intersection between spiritual traditions, astrological beliefs and magical practices. While some consider eclipses to be moments of energetic potentiation and divine connection, others see these events as periods of instability and advise against ritualistic practice.
According to Dani, eclipses represent one of the most important moments for witchcraft:
“Assuming that our goddess is the Moon and our god is the Sun, eclipses, whether solar or lunar, will always be the meeting of these two forces.”
An eclipse is understood as a genuine moment of love, of great spiritual power, of ecstasy and of a great flow of energy that moves. All you need to do is feel good and channel energy with purpose for the phenomenon to become one of the best times to perform a ritual, as it enhances absolutely everything.
Therefore, some organizations suggest performing rituals during this period so that you can achieve your goals more easily and with more power. “Sometimes it’s not even a ritual to make a request, but to strengthen you, to balance you,” she recommends, since this energy arrives much stronger due to the power of the eclipse.
For Dani, in her tradition, it is appropriate to perform rituals during eclipses:
“As long as you are aware of what you are doing, the energies you are working with and that you are marvelously well so that no bad or contrary energies interfere with your ritual”.
However, while some see eclipses as opportunities to amplify energy and perform powerful rituals, other traditions warn against this. “Some traditions understand that the eclipse is a moment when the light is blocked, it’s a moment of sudden changes, of abrupt changes, it’s a moment of crisis, it’s a moment of blackout in our lives,” she says. It’s as if you were performing a ritual blindfolded, without being able to see or understand the energies present – and a blindfolded outcome can have unpredictable or unwanted consequences.
Are you going to do it? Then know how to choose the ritual!
There are various types of rituals, but the main thing we need to understand is the energy of the eclipse. One eclipse will never be the same as another, so we need to understand which sign and star it is associated with, what energy it is bringing, in order to be able to determine what to do in the ritual.
An eclipse offers the opportunity to channel great and powerful energies, which are not closely linked to more “mundane” aspects such as love, money and luck.
According to Dani:
“The energies are a little denser and more complex, but if you need to open up paths or money, for example, do the spell properly, with awareness, with reasoning, and it will be potentiated”.
Simple or elaborate, all spells are super positive during this period.
A herb, a jar and a request
Now that you’ve understood where to start, Dani Petrucci also took the opportunity to teach us a versatile ritual to perform on eclipse days and nights. However, because it’s an “all-purpose“ ritual, you’ll need to look for elements that make sense for the eclipse you’ll be experiencing at that moment, okay?
To begin with, find an herb that resonates with the energy of the eclipse. Put it in a jar of water and leave it outside your house or on your window ledge at the time of the eclipse – make sure it has a little contact with the sky, even if the eclipse isn’t visible. Leave it there for the duration of the eclipse. If you don’t know the exact time of the event, leave it up all day.
When you place the jar in the chosen spot, say out loud: “In the name of the goddess, in the name of the god, I ask that…”, adding your requests, which may be to attract things into your life or to banish them (fears, insecurities, illnesses, etc). Don’t ask to attract and banish two things at the same time, just choose one.
At the end of the eclipse, turn this jar over in the soil of a garden outside your house (not a council garden) and say the following phrase:
“From the earth it came, to the earth it returns”
Allowing the wisdom of the Earth to take this energy where it deserves to go, according to each person’s needs and merits. It’s done!
