Why rituals for Summer Solstice?
Every year, people celebrate the beginning of Summer on June 21 or very close to that date in the northern hemisphere. This is the day when the Earth rotates on its own axis, tilting and reaching its maximum angle, and thus receives for a longer time the solar rays in the upper hemisphere of the planet.
The further you move to the North, the more light and the longer the day will be. This is why the Summer Solstice is so closely linked to the peoples of the north. German, English, Scandinavian and Baltic people gather to light fires and dance around the fire. The tradition began long ago with the Vikings, Celts and Druids.
This is a day of exceptional energy because the Sun shines with all its strength and recharges the Earth for more hours. It is a perfect time to take advantage of this energy that embraces the planet and reinforce your requests. Think about what you want and bet on your personal expansion. Here are 6 rituals for Summer Solstice.
6 rituals for Summer Solstice
These six rituals are connected to ancient and new celebrations. All over the world is possible to find different ways in which cultures celebrated the longest day of the year and the shortest of the nights. It happens around the 20th of June in the North Hemisphere, and the 21st of December in the South Hemisphere.
During this time, the sun is closer to the Earth, fulfilling it with energy and fertility. Since the beginning of the time, our ancestors recognized the importance of this moment and celebrated it.
Rituals for Summer Solstice – Ritual of the spiral
The spiral is a symbol connected to rituals for summer solstice. Ancient cultures would dance following the movement of the sun, like a spiral. The dance consists of joining hands, wind into a decreasing spiral into the middle, and then unwinding again. We have a group ritual suggestion for you (remember that you can always adapt to do it on your own).
- Start a bonfire and sit around it with your friends (yes, it can be a candle as well!);
- Take some moment to be grateful for all the abundance you have in your life;
- Freely, let people share stories and dreams;
- Sing some songs, and then perform the dance (be careful with the fire!);
- If you have the chance, see the sunrise together (which is also considered an amazing ritual for summer solstice by itself)
Ritual of yoga
The Summer Solstice day on the Northern hemisphere was established as the International Day of Yoga, but you can also do it in December when the summer arrives at the southern hemisphere. Even though this is a recent celebration yoga is one of the oldest practices in the world. Additionally, yoga has one of the deepest understandings of our connection with the universe. It praises the sun, and that’s exactly how almost every practice starts, with Surya Namaskar, a sun salutation.
If possible, start the ritual before the sunrise.
- Place the front of your matt to the East;
- Sit and take a moment to close your eyes and align with the present moment;
- Start your practice with Sun Salutations and move on to other positions;
- Take a long Savasana (final relaxation);
- Meditate in gratitude.
If possible do a strong physical practice, connected to the moment of the cycle of nature. Strong physical practices awaken the fire within and have positive body and mental effects.
Despite that, please consider that the strongest is the physical practice, the longest must be your Savasana.
Ritual of grounding
Summer is a moment expansion, but it’s also good to stay grounded. In fact, when we are grounded, the potential for growth is much bigger. It doesn’t mean to not move, to not be funny or thinking too much. Be grounded means that you can go back to your center any time you need, that center of peace and love that always exists within yourself.
This ritual for summer solstice is not only charming, but it will also feel good in every cell of your body.
- Make a crown of flowers (yes, if you are a man too).
- Chose a song that makes you feel happy and powerful and dance barefoot (you can spend a long time dancing).
- Sit and with your feet on the floor meditate (imagine roots connecting your feel to the earth, and that it gives you the strength and energy to grow).
Enjoy these rituals for summer solstice and have a great time!
Rituals for Summer Solstice – A Ritual to forget someone
These types of rituals for Summer Solstice are perfect because this time is good to let things go. If you have been having a hard time to leave someone in the past, this ritual is for you.
Go to the beach and write down the name of the person you want to forget on the sand, near to the water. Sit and watch the waves while you mentalize you wish. When the waves erase the name, you can leave the place. Get up and do not look back.
Ritual for recharging your amulets
There is no more perfect time to energize your amulets and program them with the intentions you desire. It could be the stone of your sign or some object that brings you luck.
Meditate with the object in your hands, always holding positive thoughts and then leave it all day under exposure to sunlight.
There are some herbs considered sacred by the ancient Celtic peoples, such as St. John’s Wort, Vervain, Yarrow, Fern, and Mugwort. Seize the day to purify your home doing some smudging while channeling positive thoughts. Finish the ritual by placing a sunflower inside your home.
Powerful ritual to embrace the Summer Soltsice
This ritual is very complete when it comes to empowering your intentions for the future. You are going to need:
- Palo Santo sticks or dry rosemary;
- A yellow or golden candle;
- Essential oil of clove, cinnamon or rosemary;
- A Sunstone;
- A small mirror;
- Paper and a pen with black ink.
Start burning the Palo Santo sticks or the rosemary around your body three times, to create three rings of smoke around you. While you do it, say it out loud:
“My energy is now being cleansed and purified. Only the good energies are inside me and around me.”
After purifying yourself, do the same in the room you are in. Take a walk around the place saying:
“All the energy of this space is now cleansed and purified. Only here are the energies of the Good.”
When finished, leave the Palo Santo sticks (or rosemary) in a safe place to finish burning.
Anoint the candle with the essential oil. Light the candle and position the mirror so that the candle flame reflects on it, amplifying its power.
Hold the Sunstone with your right hand, look at the candle flame and say out loud:
“I release all expectations. I clear my energy from all illusions. I am at the right place where I need to be. I have the power to create in my life all that I desire and to manifest in my life all that I need. I trust myself. I trust in life and I know that the Universe guides me where I need to go. “
Breathe in and breathe out as much time as you need. When you are very relaxed, think about what has happened in your life since the beginning of the year so far. Are you satisfied with your life?
Now, think of everything you want to create in your life and feel the emotions as if you have already gotten what you want. Take the time you think it takes to create that clean, steady vision in your mind.
Write down on paper all your intentions clearly and objectively, as if it were already a reality. Instead of writing “I want to find a new job,” write “I have a job that makes me very happy.”
After you finish writing, place the paper under the candle holder with the candle and let the candle and Palo Santo finish burning. When all is clear, discard the remains of the herbs and candle.
Fold the paper into four pieces and place it in the window, so that it does not fall, with the Sunstone on top. Do this ritual so that it is exposed to sunlight for as long as possible. Choose a place that allows this and do not change places. As soon as the Sun no longer focuses on the site, collect everything.
Now your desires and your crystal are recharged with the best and most powerful energy of the Summer Solstice. Keep the paper in a safe place and use the crystal as an amulet.
